Main Film.

Ancillary Tasks.

This is our main poster although we made three this is our main one and would figurehead the advertising campaign with the other two going with it as collectors items.

Evaluation Question 3.

Evaluation Question 2-How Effective is the Combination of Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts?

Our main product and our Ancillary tasks work well together we have had feedback on all aspects from our class, teachers and also other friends. Our main film has worked better than we could have imagined as we were told the humour would be very hard to achieve using the conventions of a documentary. In all the viewings we have sat in on we have received laughs and positive comments. Linking the film with our collection of poster was easy as we used a simple background drawing the audience’s attention to our main character Simon. Using him in multiple funny poses with the vital prop of his oven gloves enabled us to maintain the mise en scene with our film as you are not laughing at his phobia or his problems instead at his beaming smiles or even the ‘serious quotes’ from celebrities. These are all used in a serious way but allow humour as if you take a step back and think of how ridiculous the phobia is then the more serious we make it the funnier it seems. Completing the package is our magazine review again having a piece of serious writing about our piece allows the humour to continue as although the review gives a good detailed analysis of our film it also by talking about it as a serious film again continues our feel of a serious theme about a very humorous topic. The research we did into reviews helped us to realise that pictures were key and our choice of our two pictures were very important. The one we use showing the group of people with social difficulties is subtle but also links into the film by showing one of the funniest parts without giving the reason behind it away therefore enticing a magazine reader to want to watch our film.

All in all I believe our combination of  ancillary tasks and our main film work terrifically and the idea that the film is a mockumentary can be felt throughout all of them. The humour in all three of them is not forced and all the conventions and themes needed for them are there though underlying all of this stays our ridiculous phobia which when made to be serious people have found hilarious.

Evaluation Question 1.

Auto Draft

Animatic.

Filming.

Here are some shots of our film setup with our camera and our boom in Charlie's house where we filmed the scenes for 'Simons house' it shows Sam who was the camera man shooting a mix of fixed shots and free hand shots which we used to gain an almost gorilla style to add to our verisimiltude and the conventions of a documentary. our shot in which sam follows Fraser up the stairs after a commotion is heard between Sharon and Simon is a good example of this natural feel to the mockumentary as although this scene was throughly planned we still managed to acheive a real life feel.

Scripts and Props.

Above are a few examples of our scripts that we wrote for our film although we are scripting our film we are only aiming to use them aSs a loose guide aw we are aiming to acheive a natural feel to the dialoughe as if it was real responses from real people in a real documentary.

Above is a prop which Charlie came yp for the idea for he invisiged this to be used in one of our scenes where Simon uses it to type with his forehead not only do we hope this will make people laugh without being over the top it fits with our other prop the oven gloves.

This is our film production logo and 'Hands Production' was a name we decided on to almost fit with the irony of our Mockumentary. In our film we are planning to have a moving image version of this at the start which sam is planning to create on after effects.

Review Research.

As a group we have changed our idea from a radio advert to a magazine review as we feel a radio advert may not do our film justice as it may be hard to fit it to the same genre as the mockumentary. We have looked through magazines such as empire and their websites to look at layouts of reviews and the style of how they are written. Big pictures of the film are important as well as captions which we have found that sometimes have nothing to do with the film and can instead be humorous and take a bizzare view of what the audience can see in the picture.

Research and Planning into different mockumenatries and presenters.

How did your research into genre contribute to your production work?

We have researched and talked about things like Borat and This Is Spinal Tap which both relate to our genre as they are mockumentarys and follow the convention, camera shots and themes that we are aiming to use in our film. Whilst there conventions are the same as a serious documentary with interviews and a mix of shots they always tend to use a theme or a character that is ridiculous to acheive the humour.

One presenter we have looked at who is known for doing documentaries and who we feel we can relate Fraser to is Louis Theoux in his dress sense and also his almost awkward style of presenting in which he never wants to risk stepping on the toes of the people he is following and offending them.

Poster-Further talks and new idea.

We have had further talks about our poster idea and decided after seeing the posters for Trainspotting that we should do multiple posters with the same main theme that we thought could be a storyboard in which Simon the main character  could make different poses with the gloves. This could allow us to use our promotion posters as a collectors item and as long as they all have the same colour scheme and themes like the Trainspotting posters people should be able to recognise it as a poster for our film straight away.

Video Blog

As a group we have recorded a video blog talking about our ideas and thought processes that we have been through and what we hope to achieve. Our video blog was based a bit on that of an "An Idiot Abroad" as there are three of us infront of a still camera and we kept with our theme of the mockumentary as although the things we are saying are serious. The informality of our blog and our laid back approach matches that of the mockumentary and this I feel is important as it shows we are comfotable as a group and we know our ideas that we have.
